How Far Can Human Neural Tissue Compensate for Lost Function?

A study examined human cortical organoid growth, connections, activity and behavior in mice with major developmental depletion of cortical and hippocampal excitatory neurons.

Next evidence
Manipulate graft activity during specific tasks to distinguish modulation of host circuits from information processing.

Can measuring brain function help us choose an antidepressant?

In SMART-D’s main analysis of 47 participants over eight weeks, selecting a marker-consistent drug did not demonstrate better outcomes.

Next evidence
Drug comparisons at the same treatment stage, and separate validation of early changes to inform subsequent decisions.

What Do New Cells Contribute to a Brain That Preserves Memories?

A human postmortem study suggested stalled neurogenesis associated with depression. A separate mouse study found that greater survival of new neurons improved discrimination of similar contexts.

Next evidence
Relate cell stage and circuit integration to memory retention, context discrimination and relearning.

Signatera: Using Tumor DNA in Blood to Guide Treatment After Surgery

Natera announced Japanese companion-diagnostic approval; additional treatment in test-positive patients has been assessed in a comparative trial.

Next evidence
Track the authorized population and treatment conditions.

Different Causes, Similar Psychiatric Symptoms: Protecting the Receptor

Receptor-protection evidence spans cultured cells and animals; ART5803 has entered a Phase 2a patient trial.

Next evidence
Patient selection, CSF-inclusive assessment, and ART5803 safety and clinical outcomes.

What Does Chugai Still See in a Drug Roche Is Walking Away From?

As Roche exits all development, Chugai is reclaiming rights, preparing to resume SMA work and considering an outside licensing deal.

Next evidence
Patient selection, functional endpoints, long-term evidence and licensing terms.

Investing in another company's drug to advance your own

The partnership and combination-development record now includes BNT113. In HPV16-positive head and neck cancer, the pembrolizumab combination did not establish PFS superiority; assessment of OS, the other prespecified primary endpoint, continues.

Next evidence
The planned OS analysis, detailed PFS results, and explanations of the population and safety findings.

What does an AI business sell when it helps run a clinical trial?

SURPASS calls for validation in real trials, with initial public support and a route to continuing operations. Participation does not establish an automatic allocation of drug development or commercial rights.

Next evidence
Selected teams, trial execution, payment by later sponsors and terms for model and patient-data use.

Using the same lesson across different actions, without confusing them

Mouse tasks with different actions and a shared reward delay showed shared cortical activity and task-dependent cerebellar separation that preserved temporal structure. A computational model combined faster learning with reduced interference.

Next evidence
Interference when representational separation is manipulated, transfer to novel tasks and which temporal relationships remain stable.

Changing treatment before scans show progression: a new relationship between breast cancer drugs and blood tests

European certification was added for Guardant360 CDx. Earlier switching prolonged PFS in selected SERENA-6 patients, while SERENA-4 under different conditions missed its primary endpoint. FDA requires confirmation comparing early switching with switching at progression.

Next evidence
Comparison of early and post-progression use of the same drug, longer-term survival and uptake in the indicated population.

Does an antibody that binds well make a good development candidate?

A common-condition study of 511 sequences from 29 organizations found different performance in improvement and ranking tasks. Cradle’s high-affinity candidate passed the aggregate threshold but retained concerns in individual developability assays.

Next evidence
Reproducibility across targets, yield of candidates meeting required conditions, synthesis and assay counts, and cost and time to a development decision.

Can the same information remain readable as neural activity changes?

Flexible electrodes tracked the same mouse neurons over months. Aligning activity across recording days improved decoding of temporal information in a repeated movie. The analysis also used responses from the new day.

Next evidence
Distinguish reader adaptation from stable information components, and examine the learning that maintains their correspondence or its breakdown.

Enspryng expands into thyroid eye disease: a different target and a different way to treat

The US approved Enspryng for adult thyroid eye disease. SatraGO-2 met its primary endpoint, whereas SatraGO-1 did not. Maintenance dosing is a subcutaneous injection every four weeks, with home administration possible after training.

Next evidence
Follow disclosed new treatment starts, switches from other therapies and indication-specific sales in thyroid eye disease, separately from total Enspryng revenue.

Why does the same inflammation affect some fetuses but not others?

Within 24 hours of immune stimulation in mice, developmental abnormalities were reported in roughly 30% of fetuses, limited to a subset of males. Affected fetuses also showed placental inflammatory changes, structural disruption and immune-cell and cytokine accumulation in amniotic fluid.

Next evidence
Research separating placental inflammatory regulation, structural maintenance and developmental timing, and testing whether changing local conditions alters fetal outcomes.
